What type of system should I get?

The cost of your solar power system depends on the technology you choose, the size of your roof and your energy usage.  Households most commonly install systems between 1 – 2 Kilowatts.

In Perth W.A. there is an average of 4 to 5 units of electricity generated per day from a 1Kw system.  This is roughly equivalent to 25% of the average family electricity bill. Maximum Federal Government incentives are achieved for the first 1.5 Kw of capacity of the system installed. To become self sufficient or produce a surplus in electricity production, the capacity of your system will need to increase in accordance with your energy usages as indicated on your power bill.

Your choice of inverter should at least match the largest amount of energy that your panels can collect.  A popular choice by householders is to install a 1Kw system now but with a larger capacity Inverter so that more panels can be added at a later date.Solar panels are generally warranted for 20-25 years power production and inverters generally have a 5-10 year warranty.

Comparatively little maintenance is required, however, the solar panels need to be kept free of heavy dust and grime, salt, leaves etc.  Trees that may grow up and shade the panels must be kept trimmed to maximise light onto the panels. If you are unable to service your system a Cable Express staff member can do it for you.
