Installation Considerations
For you to be eligible for a Federal Government Incentive, the person who carries out the installation must be accredited for design and installation of photovoltaic systems by the Clean Energy Council. A licensed electrician is required to link the system to the main power grid. Cable Express offers both.
Panels are usually mounted on the roof of your house. They can also be mounted on a shed or garage and even on the ground. They should be located to maximise exposure to the sun and to minimise shading. No changes to your power outlets are required for solar power to be used in your household.
Cable Express in Perth can help you work out the best place to put the panels to make the most efficient use of the sun. A north facing roof at 30° is optimum, however, orientation within 45° east or west of north is still acceptable. If you don't have a sufficient roof slope, we can design a special mounting frame.
The solar panels are connected together, led to a switch box from where cables take the DC electricity through a breaker box and into the inverter. The converted AC electricity then runs to another fuse in the mains switchboard of your house. The main grid and solar panel systems are installed as two separate isolated systems, for safety reasons. If the main grid goes down then your power system will automatically shut off, to stop any back feed.
Western Power will install a bi-directional meter to monitor power going into the house. This way you are only billed for the ‘net’ amount of power you use. *Note: a bi-directional meter is only fitted by Western Power and is charged on the next bill.
